Response to An American Soldier's Blog-"Where were you-9/11"

While browsing through the archives, I came across the blog entry for "Where were you-9/11." I decided to read this one because yesterday I watched "United 93" for the first time, so I was able to relate to this entry. At the time the planes hit the Towers, the soldier was entering his work building while listening to Howard Stern. After hearing what happened, the soldier went to NYC to help out. I do not know this man's past (if he had fought anywhere else but Iraq), but I believe this was the time that he decided to become a soldier. Reading this man's blog was incredible because he remembers the day so clearly, and his first instinct was "I want to go help." I remember that day so clearly as well, even though it was five years ago. It's amazing how five years seem to fly by. Where was I on 9/11? I was a fifth grader at Dows Lane Elementary School. I remember teachers popping in and out of my classroom to talk to my teacher, who reluctantly stepped out of the room to talk to them. During recess, I will never forget seeing two planes flying extremely low heading south towards the city. After recess, many of my classmates "disappeared." When my friends and I asked my teacher, she either ignored the question or responded with the simple "I don't know." Fast foreward a few hours to dismissal-my dad was waiting for me. I ran to him and he gave me a hug. Just then my sister came running and siad "I plane hit a building in the city!" She was right. My dad explained how two planes hit the Twin Towers and how another hit the Pentagon. My friend and I spent the next hour or so outside on the playground, waiting for news. Finally, I went home and turned on the television where I was horrified to see the distruction. I will never forget that fateful day; I do not support the war, however I support our soldiers and hope they know that they are amazing people for fighting for our country.
