"Mannahatta" analysis

I think that the author's intent of this poem is expressing how busy and crowded New York is. It is showing that not just people, but "things" such as clouds, boats, shops and shows want to come to New York and be a part of the city. The business of New York is similar to the feelings of the immigrants...excited, nervous, anticipating, and faithful.
